NSC Update #2: The Niche Site Is Revealed & Got Initial Ranking In Google

niche site updateOkay, I have to admit that the challenge is moving pretty slowly and it’s been nearly 2 months since we (Josh and I) publicly launched it.

The reason for this is because we both had so many projects to work on and got distracted a little bit.

Fortunately, I was still able to get the site ready thanks to the help of my excellent writer, Hazel Rabor, from the Philippines.

For this niche site project, I focused on quality content a lot and I’m extremely happy with what we have done so far, and the initial result is great as well!

Without talking any further, let me go ahead and show you the site.

Okay! My Site Is…

 [wpsharely id=”1343″]
Here’s my site: DoubleStrollerCenter.com

As you can tell right from looking at the domain, the target niche for this site is the double stroller niche and the main keyword is best double stroller. I also picked double stroller reviews as secondary keyword to target on the homepage.

Here’s a quick look at the competitor analysis screenshots from Long Tail Pro.

You can clearly see that this main keyword is an easy one with the KC of 30 & several web 2.0 & article-based sites on the top 10 competition. I’m pretty confident to achieve #1 ranking in the next 2 months for this keyword.

The competition for this keyword is pretty similar to the above one and we can even see that there’s one niche website sitting at the top which means we can also achieve that ranking.

Setting Up the Niche Site

For this case study, I decided not to use the help of my virtual assistant on everything. I did the setting up myself and just hired a guy on Odesk to help me add the articles as it’s pretty time consuming.

I have written a very detailed post on how to set up a website with wordpress before so be sure to check it out.

As usual, I used the old version of the Lifestyle child theme as it’ pretty simple and clean with lots of white space.

The logo was made by me with the help of Photoshop and IconFinder.com.

I also did the graphic on the right sidebar. If you have Photoshop and want to use my template, here’s the PSD file.

Honestly, you shouldn’t spend much time on this step as I did because it was pretty time consuming and had us distracted from our initial goal of getting the site running as fast as possible.

Just choose a simple theme, make a simple logo, make some simple graphics and go with what you have.  You can also do the customization later when your site is up and running and (maybe) have generated some profit.

Here’s the list of plugins I used:

  • WordPress SEO by Yoast
  • Easy WP SEO
  • TinyMCE Advanced
  • Related Posts via Categories
  • Q2W3 Fixed Widget
  • Limit Login Attempts
  • Genesis Simple Edits
  • Contact Form 7
  • AA’s Digg Digg Alternative

I also installed Google Analytics and added the site to Google Webmaster Tool. Some people say that we shouldn’t share a lot of information about our sites with Google to prevent the risk of being penalized but I think that’s not true.

Google already knows a lot about every site we create so there’s no reason why we don’t use their helpful and free tools to make our site even better.

Had My Writer Create all the Content (30 Articles)

The ability to create high quality and engaging content is the key to success in building profitable niche website.

And it’s even more important now as Google is continuously improving its algorithm to reward high quality websites while penalizing sites with crappy content.

With the help of my outstanding writer hired through Virtual Staff Finder, I’ve been able to create over 30 high quality 800-word+ review and how-to’s articles for the site including a 4500-word homepage with a huge comparison chart featuring the top 3 products on the market.

I was making things very complicated at first with a big vision for the site but then I realized that the goal is to get the site up in the shortest period of time before I can do anything else to improve it.

That was my biggest mistake on this challenge that made me procrastinate the launch.

So my honest advice for you guys is to launch your website as soon as possible with a minimum amount of articles (10-11 articles with a high quality homepage is far more enough for a new website).

Maybe you have taken a look at my site and are wondering how I made the comparison chart.

Well, it was pure HTML so feel free to copy my code if you like.

I’m also in the process of developing a WordPress plugin that allows users to automatically create beautiful and high-converting comparison chart for Amazon products. Tell me if you’re interested in the comment.

Launched the Site & Started the Link Building Campaign

I launched the site approximately 2 weeks ago. The website didn’t show up for the main keyword in Google yet, but that’s pretty normal and I can wait.

Ranking Update 12/02/2013: The site is ranking #23 for “best double stroller” & #34 for “double stroller reviews”. Here are some graphics:

The main backlinking strategy for this site is to create high quality tiered link building campaigns as described here to achieve high and sustainable ranking.

We can no longer blast thousands of links and get a website ranked in just a few days.

I’ll play the long term game in this challenge so be patient and wait for my results :D.

Total Time & Money Invested

I spent pretty much money on this site as the result of my mistake on trying to create a “perfect” website.

Here’s the list of what I have spent money & my time on:

  • Time invested
    • Keyword Research: 2 hours
    • Setting Up The Site: 4 hours
    • Communication with my Writer and VA: 4 hours
    • Further research & investigation on the topic: 5 hours
      • Total: 15 Hours
  • Money Invested

What’s Next

Now, I’ll continue to focus on growing the traffic for the site and hopefully make a few sales over the next month.

I have very high hopes for this site and with my experience, I would expect the site to make $1000+ a month for me in the next 6 months.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.

Hope you like this update.
